Why Flippi Exists
I know what it's like to dig through a rack and wonder:
Flippi exists to answer that question — fast.
Not every item is secondhand. Some come from truckloads, estate sales, or our own closets. But the mission is the same:
Help the planet — while turning a profit.
Reselling is real income — it pays bills, buys groceries, fills gas tanks, and builds full-time businesses. Flippi is here to help you earn more from it, while keeping good things in circulation and out of a landfill.
Environmental Impact
Every time an item is resold, reused, repaired, or upcycled instead of being replaced with something newly manufactured, it can help reduce the demand for new materials, energy, water, packaging, and transportation.
You do not have to be a professional environmentalist to make a difference. Saving a well-made handbag, a handmade piece, a vintage garment, or an overlooked household item is a practical choice that keeps useful materials in circulation and helps prevent unnecessary waste.
The Flippi Impact Algorithm
Flippi turns the environmental value of each find into an estimated, easy-to-understand impact.
Our algorithm:
- Identifies the item category, such as a handbag, garment, shoe, accessory, or household item.
- Evaluates the likely materials, including leather, cotton, denim, wool, synthetics, metal, or mixed materials.
- Applies category and material benchmarks for carbon emissions, energy use, water use, and material waste associated with producing a comparable new item.
- Estimates the portion of that impact potentially avoided when an existing item is reused instead of replaced with a newly manufactured equivalent.
- Converts those measurements into plain-English comparisons that are easier to understand.
For example:
Instead of presenting only kilograms of carbon or liters of water, Flippi shows what those numbers mean in everyday life.
Our estimates are modeled using publicly available environmental research, including the EPA's textile waste and materials data, the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, and textile lifecycle research measuring carbon, water, and waste impacts.
Environmental impact varies based on an item's materials, manufacturing process, condition, transportation, and how it is used after resale. Flippi's results are therefore informed estimates—not certified lifecycle assessments for individual products.
One rescued item may feel small. But when buyers, sellers, collectors, makers, and resellers make these choices repeatedly, those individual actions connect to create meaningful, measurable impact.
Flippi's Approach to Authentication
Flippi uses AI to give you a Real Score — a percentage-based confidence rating.
We analyze visual cues from a single photo: logo placement, stitching patterns, shapes, and known design elements. This is not authentication — it's signal-based guidance. A fast, lightweight tool built to support smarter sourcing decisions, especially in the real-world chaos of thrifting, reselling, or flipping.
We believe in buying authentic and building trust. Use it as a first impression, not a final verdict. Always verify independently before listing high-value items.
Keeping Flippi Free & Fair
Flippi is free to use with no account. To keep it that way — fast for real shoppers and protected from bots that would run up costs and slow it down — there's a limit on how many free analyses and questions you can run each hour.
Most people never notice it. If you do reach it, just wait a bit or sign in (still free) to keep going.
